Blood Pressure
Published 15/04/2010
The Town's Rotary Club were in Tesco's on Saturday offering free blood pressure testing as part of the Stroke Association awareness campaign held each year. Thousands of people die or suffer strokes needlessly because they have been unaware of high blood pressure.
Rotary Clubs throughout the country hold a Stroke Awareness day in public places in support of the Stroke Association. They provide qualified medics to take blood pressure, referring people to their doctors if the test is suspicious.
A high number of Newtonians who took the test found they needed to visit their doctor. One was advised to go immediately as an emergency measure.
The Rotary Club wish to thank Tesco Manager Martin Butcher for hosting the event and to his staff for being so helpful. Thanks also to the volunteers who provided the testers and the equipment, in particular Wayne and Roger from Medical Services Ltd from Bishop Auckland who worked all day alongside Rotarians.
